Un trek très populaire. S’il est le plus ancien chemin de grande randonnée d’Écosse, le West Highland Way(WHW) est aussi le plus couru!
Sa popularité vient certes de son ancienneté, mais sans doute aussi de la publicité qui lui a été faite. Dans le topo-guide en anglais qui nous accompagnait (« Walking the West Highland Way » chez Cicerone) j’ai pu lire qu’il a été élu par le National Geographic comme l’un des trails parmi les dix meilleurs au monde. Cela nous a d’ailleurs donné du fil à retordre pour trouver des logements...
Le WHW en quelques mots: Le WHW est un parcours de 96 miles, environ 154 kilomètres, qui relie Milngavie à Fort William. Il traverse des paysages sauvages et diversifiés, de basses montagnes, longe des lochs et des zones humides. Il ne présente pas de difficultés majeures mais nécessite quand même un certain entraînement.
Cette nouvelle randonnée aussi riche qu’exigeante maille la région sur 109 kilomètres. Inaugurée cet été, elle est le fil conducteur qui permet d’explorer la région d’Eupen, une partie des Hautes Fagnes et la vallée de la Warche entre Malmedy et Bütgenbach.La plupart du temps, la Venntrilogie (VT) suit les cours d’eau issus des Hautes...
