Il ne faut pas faire une longue route pour découvrir l’Eifel, une région allemande à l’est de la Belgique, très forestière, un peu volcanique, entièrement adaptée et organisée pour la randonnée.
Il ne faut pas aller très loin pour marcher sur des volcans. L’Eifel propose cette expérience, parmi les maars, cratères creusés par des explosions volcaniques, à moins de trois heures de route de Belgique.
Le massif compte septante-cinq maars, dont neuf remplis d’eau, des marsee, formant des lacs parfaitement circulaires. Cette région germanique, contiguë à la Belgique, fait partie du même massif schisteux rhénan que notre Ardenne.
Avec l’attrait du volcanisme en plus, même paisible, car les dernières éruptions remontent à plus de 10 000 ans.
Voici deux ans une petite activité avait été détectée, mais aucune coulée de lave n’est à craindre. Le sol a connu une montée d’un millimètre par an autour de 2020.
